Kayla Sun is a LA-based trilingual Asian filmmaker. She is a 2023 Academy Nicholl Fellow. Her 2022 short film “The Code of Family”, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, has earned her the NYWIFT Award for Best Female Director in Narrative short, and four other awards, currently still screening at major festivals. Several of her screenplays received numerous achievements including winning the 2023 Nicholl, being finalist in the 2022 Austin Film Festival, the 2023 Scriptapalooza Pilot competition among many. Other works including “Velare” (2020), “Shop” (2017) have screened in film festivals and galleries internationally. Her upcoming short film “Return to Office” (2024) is currently in post production. Kayla earned her M.F.A. for Film and Television production at University of Southern California, as a Jeffrey Jones Scholar in writing, and earned her B.A. for Art and Economics at Vanderbilt University.
